#1 Day Trip Destination from Williamsburg

Virginia’s Historic Triangle of Williamsburg, Jamestown and Yorktown is one of the state’s most popular destinations. With its convenient location, Smithfield is the first choice for day-trippers from Virginia’s Historic Triangle of Williamsburg, Yorktown and Jamestown. The town is an authentic colonial seaport, established in 1752 and still going strong. While the Historic Triangle offers up costumed interpreters, if you want to meet Smithfield’s “characters,” just take a stroll along Main Street. You’re sure to be greeted with a cheery hello from “genuine”Smithfield folks and if you sit a spell, they might even share a few stories too.

History lovers will find lots of attractions to explore in the area as well, including two historic forts, the 1750 Isle of Wight Courthouse, the Isle of Wight County Museum, the Schoolhouse Museum and St. Luke’s Historic Church and Museum. The town’s Main Street offers restaurants, galleries and specialty shops – all independently owned and operated small businesses. The area is also well-known for it’s quality special events including Smithfield VA Event’s Wine and Brew Fest, BOB (Bourbon, Oysters and Brunswick Stew) Fest, Bacon and Music Fest, an award-winning Farmers Market, two Vintage Markets, a monthly Pickers Market, the Smithfield Arts Festival, holiday events, concerts and productions at the Smithfield Little Theatre.

Outdoor activities also abound with a seasonal outfitter available at Windsor Castle Park, bike trails, fishing piers, parks and walking trails. Isle of Wight County is proud of its agricultural heritage and many of the local farms offer tours and on-site shopping, as well as “pick your own” opportunities. A “Visit the Farms”brochure is available at the Visitor Center. The information is available on this website as well.
